Jimmy pertinent point on the rorts of utility service in embedded networks. The greatest rort that you may have missed is the charging for hot water services methodology. The utility company pipes gas to a central boiler room in just one connection. Then charges each unit on a calculation converting hot water litres to gas (no doubt in their favour generously) this can just be acceptable. But then they charge every single unit a gas supply charge when they don’t supply gas to each unit at all! The calculations show hot water costs of perhaps $25 a quarter but the supply charge each and every quarter is close to double the actual gas usage. Now that’s money for nothing. Apologies to Mark Knoffler.
