    Hi people.

My last two electricity bills have included notices that Energy Australia could not get in to read the meter. And if they have to make a special visit, there will be a fee.

This all makes sense, except for the part where Strata may have bollixed up Energy Australia's access to the meters.

I've contacted my property manager (I rent), but can I make Strata pay the access fee, if it comes, since they're the ones who look after Energy Australia's access?

    Wade.

    Hi Wade,

I suggest calling Energy Australia and confirming what their issue with access is. It may be just that the meter reader guy couldn’t be bothered to follow the access instructions. In general access to the meter board is actually quite simple.

The alternative can be that you just gain access via a licensed electrician and read the meter and advise Energy Australia.

I spoke to my Property Manager and we both realized that I can't be the only one with this problem, so it's best to refer to Strata. Especially as Strata are in the middle of a (rather slow) security and safety upgrade.

The meters are in an unlocked cupboard in a foyer. I have access because I have a building system key. But how do Energy Australia get access? That's for Strata to sort out. 🙂

    Wade.
