Is it normal for agents to demand immediate responses from tenants via phone?
On two seperate occasions my agent has proceeded to spam my phone with calls/texts and was absolutely freaking out when i didn’t reply immediately. On the first occasion, she suddenly sent me a message late at night accusing me of late rent payment when I had already sent it and I told her the next day I would check my records and get back to her. She kept freaking out and spamming me with calls/texts and was saying things like “I don’t need to wait one minute” which I found very strange. Seems more reasonable that tenants should be given a few business days to respond since they are not on call 24/7.
(I had to tell her multiple times that I had already sent the rent days earlier before she started to calm down)
On the 2nd occasion I replied to her email at noon, went to sleep early in the evening, and when i checked my phone the next morning, I found that she had been spamming me with calls/texts sometime after I went to sleep and was freaking out again with texts like “Are you there???”.
And now she suddenly sent me an email saying she wanted to do a room inspection in the next 1-2 days. Some random guy just showed up at our apartment looking for her, I think he wanted to do a room inspection, but he went away after I said the agent wasn’t there. On a hunch, I did a search online and found that she listed an ad for a room at our apartment, although i am not sure if it’s my room because she didn’t provide pictures, but the available date is approximately the same as my lease end date. I have a feeling she doesn’t plan to let me extend my lease simply because I don’t respond to her calls immediately…
Now the agent has ignored all my emails since then and just texted me saying she would come to do an inspection in 20 mins. Isnt the agent supposed to give more warning than this?
