I signed a 12 month lease just under 3 months ago on a 2 bedroom townhouse here in Bunbury, Western Australia. I didn’t give the stairs a second thought, but am finding myself in  more and more pain as the constant climbing up and down inflames my ankle, which I sprained really badly about 15 years ago.

I’ve searched high and low for advice about breaking a lease due to a medical condition, but can’t find anything. Being on a fixed income, I can’t afford any penalties for breaking the lease, but don’t feel I can keep living here.

Is there any sort of provision whereby a tenant can terminate a lease early with no penalties due to such an issue?

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Kay
