Always follow your articles and column BUT the crazy computer generated passwords are a real obstacle for us “older folks” and being able to make up our own passwords with given criteria would result in more people remaing active on the forums! Saving obscure passwords is not easy.

This is a constant dilemma for me.  Naturally, I want as many people as possible to use the website. But as soon as I make the registration process too easy, the we get swamped with spam, some of which carries malware.  A few years ago I had to shut the site down completely to remove a virus that had come in with an attachment, before it got out to my Flatchatters.

The option to let people set their own passwords is attractive but it adds another level of input for readers and that too puts people off.

I have so many different passwords for different sites that I use software called LastPass which automatically remembers and retrieves your passwords, depending on what sites you’re logging into. If anyone else has any bright ideas for making the password process easier, please let us know.

These days your browser may offer the same option too.

Or if all that is too much, create a folder in your email server called Passwords and just copy any emails you get with passwords in them to that folder – then you’ll always be able to find them.

By the way, age is no barrier – I’m so old my first computer had green writing on a black screen. Cool
