We had the most horrible committee meeting on Friday, the sub-committee were there in force.

The Strata Manager told them they could only speak if allowed by the committee, took no notice. Strata Manager explained the role of the committee, again took no notice.

4 attendees very aggressive with their behaviour. Most disruptive

Ex Chairman told current Chairman to shut up. He was asked to leave, he refused. Not a Committee member

      a) What recourse is available to ensure this type of abusive behaviour does not happen again

      b) Is there any legal avenue we can take regarding the abusive behaviour and attitude?

      c) Would a notice to comply help? Can we barr them from future meetings if they fail to give an undertaking? Can we fine them?

      d) We are considering moving to email meetings going forward

You need to create a set of standing orders and a code of conduct have them adopted by by-law.

Have a look at these previous threads on Standing orders and Codes of Conduct.

Basically, you need to have either or both adopted as by-laws and then you can start hitting disruptive owners with “naming” in the minutes and Notices To Comply, leading to fines.

Just make sure that your by-laws aren’t worded in a way that makes them “harsh, unconscionable or oppressive.”
