A friend of mine, in a townhouse complex, told me this week that she received an email from the EC saying that they were going to be painting the exterior – in 8 hours time!  The only way to access the back of some of these townhouses is to go through them.  And the EC didn't bother to notify tenants, only owners.  Shouldn't they give adequate notice for something like this?  Also, the EC has told owners that the painters will require access to use toilet facilities.  What right do they have to actually ask this?  I wouldn't like tradespeople knocking on my door to use the loo (unless I have hired them myself).  I have often let tradespeople working on common property access to power points but not the loo.

I ask because our complex is should soon be organising their own painting of the complex.  Half of the townhouses here need access to the back through the property.  Previously, the Managing Agent organised drainage inspections for some of the townhouses with only a weeks notice and we were told we had to allow access on that day! (this was done without the EC's permission or knowledge!).

How much notice should be given for works requiring access?  Or for that matter, to have tradespeople in the complex?  All of my neighbours work and half of us are shift workers so we don't work regular hours on regular days.  I personally would need a couple of weeks at least.  Is that too much to ask?
