I am new to apartment living (8 months) and on the committee & would like to set up a email list for all residents (36) but some people have told me there are privacy issues regarding this. I would like feedback on this. T

If the committee gets all residents email addresses the sends any notices or correspondence using blind copy (bc) then that should satisfy most peoples privacy issues.

W had an email set up for the committee/residents. We never gave residents access to each others email addresses without permission. So if the person in unit A wanted email address of unit B, we would ask unit B for permission to pass it on.

I would not like my email address handed out to all and sundry. They know who I am, they know what unit I live in. There’s my letterbox and my front door for any notes, and that’s enough contact for me with my neighbours. Infact with some it is too much contact for me.

        Hi the dish,

Many Strata Managing Agents are now setting up websites for their plan.Ours has recently done so and it only costs a few hundred dollars a year for the entire plan. You need OC approval so it needs to be addressed at a GM but easy as. Owners are sent an individual code and then have access to minutes, financials etc. Perhaps you could investigate if this may suit your plan?

        Cheers, CBFCool

          Hi The Dish,

We have a number of OC’s that have set up web sites for their strata schemes and at the same time set up email addresses for each unit owner or occupant. This works well as its only OC business that is following thought the email. Great way to serve notices, keep in touch and advise the Strata Manager of issues. This allows the Owners personal and business email addresses to remain confidential.

The cost is covered by the OC out of the Adminstration fund. From what I am told its not a lot to set up and run. Good communication is a good tool for any strata scheme.

          Best of luck.
