Recently fire alarm was activated in our building with a housewife forgetting to close the gas stove when she went out of the unit to throw a garbage bag in the garbage and she forgot to take the key and was thus locked out.
Immediately our security guard alerted fire brigade, shut off power to the unit ( as it was outside the unit in the lift lobby ) but could not shut off gas as gas control was under the kitchen sink inside the unit.
As apartment living is becoming more widespread and such negligence may happen more often, is it right to have additional gas-shut off controls in the common property areas just as we have for power in new buildings at least ?
Had we had such an option, more damage to the unit and common property could have been avoided.
