Identity Fraud.
My wife and I have been reluctant landlords for twenty years . Our rental property is next door and is 30 years old. We mortgaged ourselves to buy it and protect our limited views. Over the years we have helped out various tenants and have had only a few negative experiences. As we are now retired and starting to travel we placed it in the hands of an agent for the first time. On Saturday they moved in and today the agent issued them with an eviction notice. They purported to the agent that their father, recently separated, was renting it and he provided all the necessary checks for himself. The lease was in his name and and all details on the lease was his. On Saturday we noticed that a single gentleman was not moving in but instead a couple we knew nothing about was actually the tenants. Our agent had done due diligence but unless you actually physically watch who moves in how could this be avoided?
