      I’m in NSW,

This is question I have. My neighbour has back door and it slams all the time and my bedroom is right next to it.
But it’s a house(we are in a semi with a common wall)  not an apartment building. If initial mediation via email  fails with his landlord, can I take the landlord to Fair Trading to request mediation there? Or does fair trading only deal with strata noise(in apartment buildings). I’ve lived in apartments before and had noise problem, now I’m confused if NSW fair trading handles Housing noise disputes as well as apartments.

May I suggest the following essential reading

        Best of luck!

That would qualify as nuisance. And not tolerable if deemed beyond reasonable. Have you mentioned it to the owner and think they are safe and sane to hopefully address it, maybe with your help, by trying some possible fix/padded tape or whatnot? It’s not always possible but worth trying to first address it yourself if you hadn’t thought to do such. Most folks are reasonable, and should be treated as such, until proven otherwise. Then you can escalate it. But anyways, first things first and let’s hope it gets sorted for you.
