Here’s a situation that I’ve not come across before.

Can a lot in an OC be used as a venue without OC permission?  We had this situation this morning in our building.

Here are some details:  The radio station Nova 100’s Meshel & Tommy morning show, had a “Chubby Pigeon” dining event at Tommy’s place – which was a “secret location”. It was to send up the opening of celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal’s “Fat Duck” restaurant in Melbourne. Even Heston Blumenthal attended along with some other celebrities.  The event was promoted throughout the week with listeners competing to win an invitation.

Tommy lives in our OC hence the event was held here.

No-one bothered telling the OC.  The event took place around the 6am-9am show time and was broadcast from our building.  Nova put a security person at our building’s front door.

I’m not sure if the OC needed to be informed or not.  We think they should have at least told us or let residents in the building know (eg a note in the letter box).

And they could have at least invited us!

Yeah, it’s not a strata thing – more a neighbour thing.  A polite note would have gone a loong way to calming nerves  … but maybe they were scared that some overzealous committee members might have put the kybosh on it

Feedback from the residents in the building near the apartment is that they were pretty noisy from before 6am.   The radio morning show is 6am to 9am.  They left the apartment door open during the event and there were dozens of people coming and going.

And the building’s rubbish bins that had just been collected were totally filled.

I suppose it was a bit like a party, but at 6am.  And done as a business event for the radio station.

I think you are right Jimmy.  We worked out the “secret location” and saw them setting up the event the day before.  But to try to pull the plug on it would have seemed mean spirited.

A long as it’s not a regular event that is…
