We have a new owner here in our block of 32 units. He isn’t living here but he’s renovating in dribs and drabs. It’s a stop / start affair. He’s doing some work himself and subcontracting some. His immediate neighbours in this building, where noise is readily transmitted, never know when they’re going to be subjected to a couple of days bathroom jackhammering and the reno is taking forever.
Bit beside the point, but he’s a bit shifty, cranky and unapproachable. He has the most overt body language of a fibber. He won’t give a straight answer when asked about when he might be moving in. Most of us other residents agree he’s most likely a small scale developer; fixing up an old place and then on-selling it.
Although he has been bought into line by the Executive Committee in terms of submitting plans for his renos etc. which wasn’t done, and abides by the allowable times building noise can be made, it doesn’t seem reasonable that we are not told when these noises are to actually occur.
What can we do? Could we insist our Executive Committee write to him and ask for a couple of days warning for noisy events for his neighbours? That doesn’t seem too onerous a request to be fulfilled, even if it is not an official requirement.
