An electronic voting program specifically designed for the Strata Industry is to be released in Queensland. Owners will access Agendas, Motions and explanatory information on line and be able to submit their vote selections – securely on line. Managers can see votes in real time as they are submitted. Owners can still receive paper votes if the so desire and attend the meeting.
Self-managed schemes can also use this program.

Some positives as I see them –
Owners can vote any time from anywhere wherever there is an internet connection
      Reduces/eliminates the need for proxies
Reduces postage costs, express post etc. for owners
      Eliminates invalid votes
Owners can make their vote selections without pressure
      Reduces/ eliminates possible counting errors
      Increase owner interest and participation
It is the way of the future

I welcome discussion on this topic.

Scallywag – I’ve been using a conditionally free program called Simply Voting for the past three (3) Annual General Meetings and for all Executive Committee Meetings of our self-managed plan.

Regrettably, strata on-line voting is not specifically permitted in NSW, but as it’s not specifically excluded either, I’ve been accepting the votes of participating Proprietors by that means for all unamended Motions at General Meetings provided we have a quorum at the physical meetings.

An interesting topic; do you have any details regarding the program?

Any on line voting software must comply with the relevant legislative requirements otherwise meetings and decisions could be deemed invalid.  Strata Vote is purpose built and could be utilised in Other States including NSW.

I think lot owners need to embrace this new technology as it offers solutions to a number of issues.
