Hi G,
60dB seems an astromonical level, are you sure its not 6dB? I don’t think carpet alone can achieve that.
I’ve too installed a floating timber floor with acoustic underlay. In hindsight, timber floors are not good for running kids and it actually echoes high heels.
Personally, I’ve never lived with a timber floor above above me (touch wood), but asked the owners downstairs for feedback. Rugs and hallway runners all improves the dampening further.
If you are on the EC, why don’t you invite them to your unit on the next meeting?. If you’re lucky, th EC can hear it first hand.
