I don't have any personal experience with heat pumps, but from what I've heard of other people's experiences, the noise can be a lot more disturbing than a refrigerator. That's not to say they aren't a viable option – just make sure you know exactly what you're dealing with and that the owner concerned has to take any necessary measures to protect the amenity of all residents.
