I'm following up on a conversation heard between Jimmy T and James Valentine on ABC radio yesterday afternoon regarding “who pays the water rates – tenant or owner?”.

As a long term landlord this is my experience.

The landlord is responsible for the water rates.

A tenant can be charged for the water usage component only if the unit has individual water metering and the requirement to pay for the water usage is included in the lease.

      Hope this helps.

PLEASE ... If your property is not in NSW, mention its location (state). Don't identify companies or individuals by name. Don't mention or promote your company or services. Keep acronyms and initials to a minimum. Please, don’t use “quote” unless there is a specific point to which you wish to refer, then highlight (define) that specific passage before you click on "quote". Otherwise just use reply. THANKS.
