As a long term resident of Regis Towers, I can tell you that this is not new, it’s just starting to come to a head. The Regis Executive Committee have been cancelling cards for over 6 months now it’s just that people are fed up with it.
This whole thing is just facile, if Regis Towers had any evidence to suggest that the tenants in one or more of their apartments were undertaking illegal activity they should take that evidence to the police and let them deal with it. If there is no evidence then imposing sanctions on people who are, as far as anyone can prove, innocent of any offence is commonly referred to as harassment.
Why should the tenants of Regis Towers be denied the rights common to all other tenants in Australia i.e. to be able to come and go from their homes without fear of having their locks changed?
As for any kind of sustainable prostitution in Regis Towers, that is a simply ridiculous. What person in their right mind, would go to a brothel in the middle of the city, on a street that is covered in cameras, in an apartment block which also has cameras everywhere and 24 hour security guards no less. I lived next door to a brothel in Manly for over a year and you can spot 90% of the customers from a mile off just based on their behaviour. If it were really going on, people would notice. If the Regis Towers Executive Committee expect people to be on their side, they should really come up with more convincing arguments to justify what they are doing.
