My girlfriend and I live in a rental house in Victoria that has recently had to undergo quite a large amount of work in the driveway area.
The council have to spend a week digging up the driveway that runs the length of the property, through the garage and into the neighbours yard over the back fence.
The driveway is a council easement and they were laying new storm water drains, the landlord stated that it had nothing to do with him.
The garage had to be emptied as the floor of the garage needed to be hammered up to lay the pipe under.
My questions are:
is half price rent for the term of the project an acceptable offer from the landlord considering the garage/driveway was up usable during this time?
Is a lock up garage classified as an interior room to the rental property?
How do I go about seeking a fair compensation assessment for this inconvenience, as it took a number of hours to clear out garage and put stuff back, had to find alternative areas to store what was in the garage( couldn’t use the laundry during this time) and so on and so forth?
The landlord has been very sneaky about the whole project and also came on to the property to do some plumbing work of his own without letting us know, this is not the first time that he has entered to property without consent whilst we have been here.
Thanks Guys, I look forward to hearing your responses.
