From the Forum – is working from home legal?

With more of us working from home, a fairly obvious question has been raised – is it legal?

And the answer is … probably yes, possibly no.

The critical issue, especially in these lockdown days, is whether or not you have dozens of clients or co-workers traipsing through the common area or making a racket in your home to the annoyance of your neighbours.

But working from home is different, even if you are hosting a Zoom conference with a dozen business contacts.

However, it turns out your employer is responsible for your workplace safety even when you are working off your coffee table (according to Sue Williams in this week’s podcast).

Here’s the original question and answer. But we know a lot of you are working from home because our inbox is overflowing:

  • Strata manager and committee are refusing to let me see the report on a flood in my unit.  Can they do that?  That’s HERE.
  • In a similar vein, a strata committee is refusing to let an owner see financial reports.  What can be done? That’s HERE.
  • What are the legal steps for a chair to resign in Victoria – do they need to hold a general meeting. That’s HERE.
  • My committee wants to take over finding tradies to work in our block.  But where do we find them?  That’s HERE.
  • Who can raise a special levy in Victoria?  The strata committee or the owners corp in a general meeting?  Turns out it’s both.  That’s HERE.

There are lots more questions and answers in the Forum, probably because these days, more than ever, Flatchatters are finding the time to register, log-in and post questions and answers.

Come on board and make good use of that extra home time we all have. We’ve made it easier for you to register and log in, so give it a go. You can register HERE and find the Forum HERE.
