So I have a tenant in an ACT townhouse under strata management.

Our Committee Chair person organised for part of the driveway to be ripped up on short notice (not emergency work at all). The Strata Manager sent out an email notification on Thursday afternoon with the works to start the following Monday morning. So less than 4 days notice.

It appears that my tenants may have been away and have arrived home today to their car trapped until the end of the week when the driveway had set.

My property manager hasn’t seemed to get the notification from strata management (but the strata manager believes he should have received them). I didn’t read my email until Monday but by then the driveway was being torn up and I feel terrible for my tenants.

Surely owners and tenants should be given more notice for works that are going to directly affect them?

Is anyone liable for my tenants car not being accessible for days?

If my tenants car has been damage due to concrete work directly next to it who is liable?

Thanks and looking forward to some advice.

Has the chair advised you why it needed to be done urgently?
        Or even done at all?

Surely this would be an expensive repair. and would have been discussed at the AGM?

Lots of questions and on the information supplied it doesn’t appear that enough notice was provided.
