A few weeks ago, we asked Flatchat readers if you thought clamping and towing should be allowed in strata developments. Here are some of your responses – a unanimous “Yes!”.
If you owned a house and someone parked in your driveway they are trespassing and can be dealt with by the law but if someone does that at an apartment block the law says that is OK. – RC
After trying to get recalcitrant owners to leave visitor parking spaces for what they were intended – visitor parking – I was sworn at and threatened by an owner. —DN
People use our driveway as free public parking so they can go out to a restaurant or shopping … they often block the driveway or park in front of the gate. —CW, Potts Point
If someone wants to park in front of my apartment garage from now until doomsday, what are the options? The police won’t tow them. The council won’t tow them. Both will of course move vehicles if there is a ’special event’ in the city. —PC
I was warned not to park in the visitors parking by one of our resident ‘nutters’ because their adult children who live with them park there.—KM
Residents park their second cars permanently in visitor parking. Last week an elderly owner was very ill, and rang for her doctor. He could not find anywhere to park, either inside or outside the building, so drove off. —HC, Sydney City
What gets me most is the attitude you cop when you ask them to move a car that shouldn’t be there in the first place! —Kris J
Residents of other strata blocks park illegally in ours. We can’t issue a Notice to Comply on residents of other stratas. Go the clamping and towing! —Jan & Gary
Currently it takes so long to go through the process with Fair Trading that most offenders are gone from the complex before they are served with a fine. —Patrick
The good news is that a spokesman for Fair Trading told us they are aware of your feedback and are looking into the matter. Watch this space.
