Forum: On the offensive over fixing a fence

We have a real mixed bag of questions and answers this week so we’ll get straight into it.

An owner’s dispute with the owners corp over replacement of a shared fence has gone to a tribunal which told them to split the cost.

Now the OC wants the owner to pay the bill first then claim their share back.  He doesn’t trust them due to past conflicts.  What should he do?  That’s HERE.

A resident’s garage door was a bit lower than normal and a neighbour accidentally hit it with his car

The door is common property and probably covered by strata insurance but the strata committee wants the car-driving neighbour to pay to fix it.

Who’s at fault, the driver, the garage owner or is it just one of those things that should be covered by insurance?  That’s HERE.

A minority of owners have called for a general meeting to deal with a levies-dodging owner.  The committee has hired experts to attend and seems to want to charge the owners who called the meeting for their services.  Is this right?  That’s HERE.

Bathrooms can be tricky during renovations – which is why you usually need a special resolution approval.  But what if you’re only changing the sink?  That’s HERE.

A tenant is moving heavy, noisy manufacturing machinery into a commercial lot.  Is there anything we can do about it?  That’s HERE.

How to ask and answer questions

Anyone can read our posts anytime but you have to be registered to ask or answer questions. However, there are several easy ways you can search, access, ask questions and reply to others’ queries once you have registered.
The best way these days may be to click on “Forum: Your Qs & A’s” on the top menu bar on a computer screen or on the drop-down menu (three lines) on the right of the screen on phones and tablets, under the Strata Choice ad. Then click on the topic title that interests you, and off you go.
Alternatively, you can look at the list of “Your latest questions and answers” under the ads on the right of the page on a computer screen. Or at the bottom, after the ads and stories, on a tablet or phone.
Or you can go “old school” and go to the Forum Home Page and work your way through the topics there. Whichever route you take to get there, the best way to keep up to speed with what’s happening is to register (if you haven’t already done so), then login and subscribe for free to the topics that interest you most.
That way you’ll get an alert whenever the discussion moves forward, and you can also chip in with your own comments and questions. Have a look HERE at our instant guide to getting online.
