This probably should have been the lead story in the Forum last week but instead it ended up on the newsletter. Apologies for the deja vu for subscribers but, for those of you who don’t subscribe, someone had written to us asking what can be done about people from a neighbouring apartment block who park their cars without permission in their visitors’ car spots.
To make matters worse – and showing a considerable amount of brass in their necks – they have cut through the adjoining fence and installed a gate to make it easier for them to access their cars.
Now, I have suggested a couple of responses. One taking a legal approach, the other less so.
But you worry about people who have the nerve to do something so obviously wrong and expect to get away with it. Cutting a hole in a fence is one thing, installing a gate is a whole other level.
Actually, getting residents of your own building to stop parking in visitor spaces is hard enough, trying to deal with non-residents is a different set of strata issues entirely.
I’d welcome any other suggestions but one thing I feel pretty sure of is that this will not be resolved easily or cheaply. People who feel they have the right to ignore common law rarely respond to logic and common sense.
Otherwise, it’s been a quiet week on the forum … except for an epic post that is strangely related to the parking issue. A neighbouring block’s sole owner has moved a fence to grab more space and the Tribunal can’t or won’t do anything to stop it. That’s HERE.
So easy to ask and answer questions
