Sydney’s eye-catching One Central Park has been named one of the 50 most influential tall buildings of the last 50 years in the international Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) global awards.
One Central Park, completed in 2014 just off the Broadway gateway to Sydney’s CBD, comprises two residential towers above a retail podium, and incorporates innovative and environmentally ambitious design.
The result is a visually stunning Sydney landmark – wrapped in luxurious vertical gardens – that has played a pivotal role in the transformation of a former brewery site into a thriving residential, entertainment and retail hub.
The Frasers Property and Sekisui House project joins a prestigious list of buildings around the globe intended to showcase best practice in tall buildings and represent a significant change in thinking or technique.
“Central Park was a bold and ambitious project from the outset and it is very rewarding to have created a building that ranks among one of the world’s most admired,” says Mick Caddey, Development Director of Frasers Property Australia.
“To be among the company of Jin Mao Tower, the Transamerica Pyramid Center in San Francisco, Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Twin Towers, the 601 Lexington building in New York and others – that’s a truly inspiring achievement.”
Two defining features of One Central Park are the vast number of plants grown both vertically and horizontally on the two towers – including vertical gardens by Patrick Blanc – and a monumental heliostat, which captures and redirects sunlight for year-round lighting to otherwise shaded areas and also hosts an extraordinary lighting artwork by Yann Kersalé.
“Our focus with Central Park has always been about sustainable mixed-use urban design while also meeting a very real need for high density city apartment living choice,” Mr Caddey says.
