A bag-snatcher crashes into a glass door, is knocked out, but recovers and runs away only to be arrested by police later.

Security is one benefit of apartment living that’s frequently cited as a major attraction. But while high-tech security systems can add value to your property, they can also be costly and difficult to maintain and can feel intrusive to people who value their privacy.

Anyone who has ever wrangled security issues through a strata committee knows that finding the balance between deterring crime and developing a sense of community can often be tricky.

With all of that and more in mind, on Thursday July 27, from 1pm to 2 pm, the Owners Corporation Network is holding an online webinar on low cost, high value security upgrades and safety in apartment buildings.

At this free webinar, Raymond Vardanega, Managing Director, Bells Access Control Services will offer expert advice on your next security upgrade.

A representative from the NSW Police Force, will share their tips on parcel theft, scams, bystander intervention and police procedures for accessing secure apartment buildings.

Investigative Specialist, Russell Harrison from the City of Sydney will unpack the regulatory framework for short-term letting.  He will also clarify the distinction between multiple occupancy and overcrowding and breaches of the planning act versus by-laws and tenancy agreements.

And Joshua Jasnos, Associate Director, Strata Plus who will lead a Q&A and answer any curly questions from the perspective of a seasoned strata manager.

Curly questions, eh? We might kick that off by asking what you do when your high security system is exactly what attracts drug dealers and sex worker to live in your building.

This webinar, for anyone that lives in, owns or manages apartment buildings of all shapes and sizes, will answer frequently asked questions, such as:

  • are dummy cameras legal?
  • are 99 cameras better than one?
  • boom gates v license recognition?
  • who can access CCTV footage?
  • what’s a good neighbour worth?
  • criminal activity vs anti-social behaviour?
  • multiple occupancy versus overcrowding
  • regulatory compliance and short-term letting
  • police procedures for accessing secure buildings.

The webinar is on Thursday, July 27 from 1pm-2pm. You can register for the online event HERE.
