In 2016 Jimmy wrote an article in Domain about Unlock Property, a new website to review builders and developers, with the aim of exposing dodgy practices. Does this site still work. My attempts to post to it and contact them has been unsuccessful.

That’s becoming a serious problem, websites dying a “slow death” and remaining online when they shouldn’t.

In this specific case, it is not clear. The site seems relatively up to date, but the last content activity seems to be from late last year.

Have you tried their contact details on the site?

Yes, I emailed and I phoned and left a message asking for a return call with no results.

An interesting forum – what do the owners of a Strata a plan do when the developer is slow a fixing the minor defects and the two year cut off is approaching?

In our case the developers are asking the owners to accept an underfunded settlement and accept all responsibility for the defects. If we do not accept, they have advised that they will argue in court that they are not responsible for the defects as the property is leasehold. This argument certainly will not pass the pub test!

Michael – I agree that the argument will not pass the pub test – but unfortunately the alternative is the legal route and having just come out the other side of a six year battle with developer/builder I can say that is not a pleasant exercise.

In our case, where millions of dollars were involved the cost, time, stress etc was worth it.

Is it possible for you to estimate potential costings of taking the legal route to help you decide what choice you really have?
