I discussed this with my insurance company. The agent I spoke to had not even heard that the FESL was coming off insurance. I suggested he spoke to his manager but he assured me that I must be wrong because he would have been told. That insurance company is Brisbane based and of course the change only affects NSW
It will interesting to see what transpires after July 1st
I pay monthly for my insurance so as far as I am concerned, I have been contributing throughout 2016/7 towards the FESL. They have only changed the rules since it got added to the rates-they obviously had to have a common start date. With a renewal date of June 24th i feel it would be unfair to have to pay the levy.Given an earlier renewal date, I would have just paid up..
I agree which is why I will not be renewing my policy on June 24th but will wait until July 1st
Yes-my land value is 360,000 (my share of the strata block value of 3,000,000) so I pay $100 plus 21.9 x 3.6 = $178
My rates levy will be $178 whilst I am currently paying $133 via my various insurances. $50 increase…but better than I’d feared
Watch out for your contents renewal. Mine due on 24th June, 6 days before FSL comes off insurance, still includes the full FSL of (for me) $72. If i leave the renewal for 7 days i will therefore save the $72..but have no cover for 6 days. Worth it?
I am not convinced: I pay in Fire Service levies a total of $156.75 pa-$80 via strata buildings group policy, $75 via my contents policy and $1.75 via motor insurance
I will be delighted if the amount added to my rates annually is less than this but all the information available indicates that it will be more than this
