There was an issue on the forum last week that didn’t get the attention it deserves, not least because it’s a common source of conflict and the solutions can be complicated.
Fundamentally, the question is, how much of a bathroom renovation should an owners corporation pay for when failed waterproofing needs a radical fix and repairs are required for damage caused?
In the case cited by our reader, the water proofing in one townhouse’s bathroom has been patch repaired at least twice but failed again causing water damage to adjoining rooms and closets.
They want the OC to pay for all the repairs to water damaged walls and fittings and the lot owners have agreed to pay for a new vanity and WC.
“Retiling the floor and the shower area is a Strata Cost but extending the tiling and removing the bath and tiling and waterproofing the section under the bath is an Owner Cost,” the lot owners say.
Are they asking for too much and making an opportunistic attempt to get a bathroom reno on the cheap? Or are they entitled to even more and just seeking a fair outcome? You can do your tap dance HERE.
