NSW. I own an apartment in a strata managed complex of 21 units. I purchased it in 2010 & lived there till 2014.

The apartment has been tenanted on an annual lease since then.

In 2023, I attempted to sell the property but it did not sell. It’s been tenanted since.

When selling, I had to dress the apartment for sale. When it didn’t sell, I placed some furniture items in the common property storage cage.

Am I allowed to use the storage cage, I pay the levies quarterly & am current with payments.

I’m not sure the tenant has anything stored.

      Thank you

Have you been asked to remove your stuff? In which case, the key question is, is it a storage area for common property or is it for commonly shared use?

It’s a cage for storage of private  goods. Some people have exclusive use storage rooms but the rest of us have the large cage. Lots of stuff in it

First, check the by-laws to see if rules about the storage cage is mentioned specifically.  If it’s not, I’d be leaving my stuff there until someone asks you to remove it.  But to be fair, label it with your name, apartment number and a way of contacting you.  Also you shouldn’t really be taking up more than 1/21 of the space.  No one should dispose of your property without giving you 28 days notice (I found this out from a Fair Trading web page after a tenant moved out of our building, leaving us with piles of whatever stuff he didn’t want to take with him).

UberOwner, I think you can edit for a limited time after you post.  This morning you have reposted with an edited version of your post (which I have left) then you posted twice with just the letter X, meaning I have had the hassle of deleting three of your posts. I respond to your Xs with a WTF?

Apologies Jimmy.  I typed out my post using my iphone and hit “submit” and nothing happened.  So I hit submit again and again nothing happened.  So I logged into my laptop and typed my post again and submitted, and all three posts appeared for moderation.  I couldn’t see a way to delete two of them, so I edited them and replaced the text wtih an “x” so it could be clear to you that they weren’t needed.  Thanks for approving the reply containing the substance and not getting so cranky that you deleted it as well.   (I did put a note about the “submit” issue in the field where you can type a reason for editing, but you might not have spotted that).

We are all flawed humans. Love your work.

Thank you. It’s being listed on the upcoming AGM so will see what happens. The storage cage is divisible by 21 owners. Some however (committee) have storage rooms but have not paid for ‘exclusive use’. The Committee put their goods into 3 different lockable common property rooms & locked them up so 15 of us shared the storage cage. The new Chairman has now removed the locks on those common property storage rooms & changed the locks so they are available to all owners. No mention of having to pay anything for the past exclusive use though. I’m happy to put my hand up for an exclusive use storage room & pay for it. I’ll ask for that to be put on the AGM for consideration.
