I hope someone can help with a query to which i haven’t been able to get a straightforward answer.
If for some reason I cause damage to another apartment in the block (say i leave the tap running or there is a leak from the washing machine etc), what insurance policy would cover the damage?
Is there a separate insurance policy that I need to take out to supplement the building policy taken out on the overall building?
One insurance company suggested that a simple contents policy should do, but then you look at the wording and sometimes they exclude anything fixed to the building (eg kitchen cupboards) and also specifically mention say built in stove. in my kitchen i also have the instantaneous water heater.
The same insurance company also said the the public liability component of the contents policy will cover damage to other peoples’ property.
Our floors are timber so the risk of water damage from the unit above is greater.
i look forward to hearing from others re the above.
