I want to convert some of my large garage to a storage room. This would include building a temporary or false wall with a door.

From the outside it would still look like a garage with a Rolladoor but inside it would be partially a room. Do I need approval to do this? Are there any potential problems what could occur? Is it considered cosmetic?.

Your biggest issue with this be the change of use – if it’s designated as a garage for parking cars in your strata plan, then you’d be in breach.  Otherwise, I can’t see it’s a huge problem unless you are storing dangerous goods there.

The other issue is, where are you parking your car (if you have one)?

Its a large garage with only one car to accommodate leaving plenty of space to include a storage area – (it would be about a quarter of the whole area). Storage would be for old documents that’s required to be kept for a period, but definitely no dangerous goods. Just wasn’t sure if it is classified as cosmetic or minor renovations.

          Thanks

Stop referring to it as a room and start talking about a built-in wardrobe and you’re covered by the Act for a cosmetic renovation.
