The original complaint is in this Forum under the headline “The beat goes on … and on …”
I was having trouble with a Ducati-riding, yuppi EC member who was fond of showing off his throbber to yuppi mates on otherwise quiet Sunday afternoons.
I fixed it by recording the noise ambiently from the middle of our kitchen and sending the sound file and an explanatory note by email to him, the rest of the committee and the strata manager; I had to provide one CD to one old biddy who didn’t do email; showing how loud it actually was.
This fixed the inconsiderate wanker.
You’ll be amazed at the ease of operation and excellent quality of the recorders built into mobiles, iPods, cameras and such and it’s usually easy to just drop the audio files on to your computer and into an email on onto a CD.
Finally, let me say you sound like a very reasonable person… too reasonable… harden up!

Two months down the track & still heavenly peace & quiet. Saw the Secretary of the EC passing by my Townhouse yesterday so asked about her comment of not being ignored (also two months ago) but why no-one had bothered to fill me in on why the drummer is quiet.Apparantly the mother spoke with our local council & they suggested mufflers for the drums which are being used,supposedly the mother bought them a week before the EC voted on the Notice to Comply but didn't tell anyone so she didn't “ïnfluence their vote”They all voted no except my husband anyway.I am happy as long as I don't hear the drums, I don't know why the mother didn't do this at the start when I first approached her in May.Thank you again for your help.
Just another comment to show what a laugh our EC have become, the Drummers mother & boyfriend have three cars between them, she parks hers in the garage & the other two in the visitors car spaces near her Townhouse.At the last AGM she also joined the EC with her friends, so how they think the EC can enforce the no parking in visitors spaces to other owners & tenants now is beyond me.

It's not just the EC who can enforce the by-laws – any owner, or indeed a tenant, can go to Fair Trading and ask for a Notice to Comply to be issued against these parking space land-grabbers.
The question is, is it a matter of principle or is there a genuine shortage of visitor's parking spaces. The law doesn't make the distinction – it's either a visitor's parking space or it isn't – but your neighbours will if they see you as more of a trouble maker than a problem solver.
Your neighbour seems to make up the rules as she goes along but until a majority of people in your community object to the fact that she and her family are parking their cars at everyone else's expense, then you may be better to live with it … or keep it in your locker until such times as you fall foul of the by-laws yourself.

I plan to let sleeping dogs lie on this one, while the drummer is quiet I don't want to cause problems & as you say, be seen as a trouble maker.It is a matter of principle though, because in the past the EC (prior to my husband becoming a member) targetted myself when family were staying with us for short periods & threatened to fine me for allowing them to park in the visitors spaces.I don't care who parks there as we have plenty of spaces, I feel if one owner or tenant is allowed to do it then it should be the same for everyone, not a select few.
Merry Xmas & Happy New Year Jimmy.I know you like happy endings to problems arising from Strata living so to finally put my experience to rest, on Xmas Eve the drummer's mother left me a note & small gift in my letterbox to say ” a small token for a new start & happy living in 2012″.The mufflers on the drums are working & everyone is happy again.I will acknowledge her gesture & move on.I will still enjoy reading other flat chatters experiences & how they solve their problems.
