We all kind of knew it would happen sooner or later. Anthony Roberts was not only the best Fair Trading minister this state has seen in … well … possibly forever, he stayed in the job long enough to make a difference.
Unlike predecessors who were either deadbeats (and hung on until they were shunted off to political oblivion) or high fliers (who were promoted the moment they displayed any intelligence or ability) Anthony Roberts actually ‘got’ strata.
Hopefully his legacy – the biggest strata law reform in 50 years – will survive the change.
We knew it would happen eventually – he has been promoted to Minister for Energy and Resources – but it was always going to be too soon.
His successor Stuart Ayres is the parliamentary secretary for Western Sydney and, apparently, a champion of small business. Hopefully he’ll be a staunch supporter of the owners and renters in strata too.
