A modest 18-apartment block in Sydney’s inner west was the very first strata scheme in the world but it sparked a global revolution in the way we live and own our homes, writes Friend of Flat Chat, Tony Cordato.

I think you will find there are those who appreciate Australia was not first.
May i suggest a quick read of pages 9 and 10 of Strata Title Property Rights by Prof Cathy Sherry.

Maybe we should have added the standard rider we attach to most exceptionalities in this country – the largest, tallest, fastest and first “in the Southern Hemisphere.”

Isn’t that amazing! we were the first in the world. it almost makes it a joy to be part of such a scheme.

Thing is it is not always great. too much room for politics and even bullying I find.

One person, who owns a large number of apartments in a block can more or less run the whole show at their whim, which is what happened where I live now.

Being the first means we also have the most evolved strata laws and culture – meaning the bullies can be dealt with… if you’re prepared to go to the barricades to get it done.  It’s more easily said than done, I know, but if a situation becomes intolerable, there are ways you can fix it.

Did you not read the posts above; we were not first.
There are a number of others who were doing this sort of thing before we stepped up.
Again; may i suggest a quick read of pages 9 and 10 of Strata Title Property Rights by Prof Cathy Sherry.

                Myth busted.

I see the irony by-pass has taken.
