We are a 19 unit Townhouse complex in the ACT (Class B under ACT strata law).
Built in the late 1970s the copper phone cabling that distributes phone (and of course now data/ADSL Internet) is reaching the end of its life. Particular becoming an issue with the imminent arrival of NBN in our suburb.
The 19 Units are spread across 6 blocks (4,2,2,6,2,3 units ) The Unit blocks are on both sides of our L shaped private road/driveway. There is a Main MDF with then cable distributed to a sub MDF on each block – from that to each unit in the block . Distance from MDF to the most distant block is around 250 metres.
The cable looks to be standard interior grade rather than exterior cabling and the ducts that we can see are standard electrical 20/25mm , with no pull ropes or wires. We have no plan or layout of the location of the ducts.
So it appears we are up for an expensive exercise with extensive trenching or directional drilling to relay ducts/cables to the unit blocks.
Has anyone else in Flatchat land had similar issues, and how did you solve them, or any alternate suggestions on a way forward?.
Also any suggestions of data/cabling firms to use in the ACT that could be consulted for the work?

We went down the NBN Technology Choice Area Switch route:
No more copper hassles as we now have fibre to each premise (FTTP) along with the other benefits FTTP brings.
Get a cable tracer to locate the conduits. Then work out how to use as much of the existing infrastructure as possible, minimising costs of conversion. And while you’re at it, leave pull wires in the conduits ready for next time.
