      Hi,

      I’m a newbie commmittee member.

A unit on our strata asked for payment plan. (Extra levy imposed with 1 month notice)

Out strata manager informed us at our last AGM, payment plans were DEFEATED.

EC wish to rectify this, aware that this will need to be a general meeting, does this meeting have to be an actual meeting? Would “paper meeting” (only votes are required, no discussion) be “legal”?

The act allows for electronic or paper voting at a general meeting.

However given that the payment plan motion was previously defeated, what has changed that would change the vote? An in person meeting allows the committee to present a case to support the motion.

It may be as simple as not enough people who agreed with the proposition bothering to turn up or send votes in, assuming that this sensible proposal would be adopted.

A few highly motivated “antis” can often defeat a majority of apathetic and disengaged.

Thank you. It was a standard motion for an AGM. And it was rushed through at the time without much consideration for the future needs of people who may need it.

Like Telstra ads, you don’t know you need it until you need it.

Anyways, I did call Fair Trading, it seems that paper votes are only allowed for SC meetings. So we’ve organised the meeting. Unfortunately coincides with the “news” about elderly getting forced out because can’t afford levies. Headlines disheartens honest ECs. 🙁
