A building manager of our acquaintance brought us this dilemma from the dark nether regions of Strataland.  It concerns an assault on the senses or, depending on your point of view, personal intimidation with unfortunate circumstances.

The owner in an apartment block complained about a tenant on his flooor persistently breaking wind in the lift, trapping him in a “stink box” for the duration of his trip to the ground floor, or up to his home.

The owner, who’d had several run-ins with this long-term tenant over mostly minor issues, was so offended that he threatened to take out an AVO.

The tenant didn’t deny the olfactory offence but claimed he was so intimidated by the neighbour that whenever he saw him, he suffered a nervous reaction which involved a leakage of gas over which he had no control.

Now, this yarn has a whiff of urban myth about it but our friend swears it’s true.

So what was his solution?  Candles in the lift?  Charcoal biscuits at the doors?

He simply advised them to avoid getting into the lift with each other – on a first come, first served basis.  Presumably this was done at a “clear the air” meeting.

Do you have an tales of sneaky strata revenge?

Tenant might benefit from seeing a good medical doctor?

Could be something very nasty going on inside him!

He could be vegetarian, with a special liking for cabbage, laced with garlic. I do feel for high rise dwellers. There is no escape for those on upper floors.
