Our strata recently had an important EGM and owners who couldn’t attend submitted their vote to the strata manager before the meeting. These owners didn’t appoint a proxy to vote for them. They actually submitted a “Yes” or “No” vote on all the motions. Owners were told that the vote was a “poll vote” at the meeting, meaning that units of entitlements would determine what motions were passed.

Are the votes, submitted by owners who couldn’t attend the meeting, on the amended motions invalid? Those that couldn’t attend may have wanted to change their mind and vote differently on the amended vote. What’s right in this circumstance? Thank you.
