A friend of mine just came back from The Big Apple. He stayed in a ritzy apartment block near and overlooking Central Park and was amazed at the number of people heading out to walk their apartment pooches at dawn and dusk. The lifts and corridors were alive with masters and all manner of furry little yapping, panting canines. Many cute, just as many not so.

He wondered what the doggies do all day when, you’d have to think, most owners were off at work. We both like the notion of having a pet but it seems cruel to both he and I.
