There is a couple on the wrong side of 70 renting on our ground level who don’t use the blinds in their common-property-facing-kitchen at all, ever, night or day. Three households can clearly see in from their own places without really trying and six households cant miss them as we come and go via the stairs and halls.
Broadly speaking they are clean and tidy, however we see them both in PJs and nighties and smalls; him with no top on is quite a sight but the sight of a 70 year old woman in her leotard is not for the fainthearted.
They also leave their front door open a lot, not just for the breeze, but so they can stickybeak.
Most residents are embarrassed (or something) by all this and having to share their domestics with them. The sense is, the tone and so value of the building is lowered. The other day a fellow owner used the term ‘trailer park mentality’. Is there anything that might be done to suggest they might behave with a bit more dignity?

Just yesterday a neighbour mentioned to me having been surprised to see a bare bottom through the open door of a unit. We had a bit of laugh about wording of a vague, euphemistic, mock-serious item “Residents are reminded that…” to put in the newsletter that could be amusing for inviting more speculation among the local gossips than the original event warranted.
More seriously, I don’t think there is much you can do about your more casual neighbours if they are staying within the bounds of the law.
I’m thinking net curtains … a quiet word with the landlord … split the cost if need be … in they go and then you tell these aging hippies they really need to keep the door shut if they’re going to wander around in their unmentionables and want to stay in the place. The landlord doesn’t need a reason to end their lease … all it takes is time. And I’m sure he’s as concerned as anyone about the value of his property being affected.

Reminds me of the joke of the couple who downsize & move into a high rise apartment. The wife looks out the window and says “I can see everyone in the apartment opposite – we’re going to have to get curtains”
to which he replies “don’t worry dear. When they see you, THEY”LL get the curtains”But jokes aside, I find the question insulting and was surprised that you actually took the question seriously. Would they complain if the couple were a young spunky,and,sexy ?
At my gym there are a lot of us 65 -75 year old women who look fabulous in their leotards and put a lot of women half their age to shame not only with their bodies but with their fitness.
So let’s see what LD looks like in leotards! Maybe the sight is also not for the faint-hearted and it is LD who needs to “behave with more dignity””Your columns are must reading in our household so please, don’t belittle them by giving credibility to puerile questions.
Fair enough, Fran. But you open with a joke that many (not I) would find sexist and offensive. Like septuagenarians in Lycra, it’s all in the eye of the beholder. JT
