The Strata Industry Working Group – including the Lands and Property Information office, Fair Trading, strata managers and lawyers and the Owners Corporation Network have produced a 'memorandum' that allows strata plans to define what is Owners Corporation responsibilities and what's yours as an individual owner.

Some of these issues are already established in strata law, others are bones of contention and inhabit greay areas of the law.

The main thing to remember is that this IS NOT LAW. However, it's a comprehensive enough document that you could make it law, as far as your strata plan is concerned, by passing a by-law agreeing to abide by its terms (with any modifications you see fit to make).

This is a good document and it will stop a lot of arguments before they start.  You will find it HERE. Download it, absorb it, adapt it and adopt it – and strata life will suddenly make a lot more sense.

Jimmy T you are a man of your word.

I listened to you on ABC this arvo, wrote down the industry group website you were discussing, you suggested to a caller you would have this site posted by close of office or words to that effect and  within minutes, there it is. Posted. Just another reason to have confidence in Flat Chat and the creator.

I have to back the words of the poster above. I downloaded and read the memorandum and it is very good and certainly, in most areas, very comprehensive. It is something I have kept a copy of and intend to forward to my Body Corporate (although the current lingo appears to be Owner's Corporation).

PLEASE ... If your property is not in NSW, mention its location (state). Don't identify companies or individuals by name. Don't mention or promote your company or services. Keep acronyms and initials to a minimum. Please, don’t use “quote” unless there is a specific point to which you wish to refer, then highlight (define) that specific passage before you click on "quote". Otherwise just use reply. THANKS.
