Hi guys, only new here. I have been searching a variety of places for info but haven’t found much. I have just started renting a property(1 month ago) recently a “notice of development” sign was erected to indicate a second dwelling at the rear of the house Im renting. I have no issue at all, but am curious to know my rights in relation to security & peace whilst under clearing & development. My main concern relates to the erection of a fence as soon as reasonably possible, they have indicated a “temp fence” will be installed. As I work away 2 weeks at a time, Im a little concerned regarding the lack of security and privacy when Im home. I maybe over reacting I just really don’t want to look at a temp fence and a bunch of tradies for the next 3-6 months or have my security at the home at risk…anyone have any ideas?

Hi Chicken, When you leased the house did you lease the area where the new building is proposed to be located, ie the back yard?

In other words is your lease subject to this development?

Do you have a written lease agreement?

Is the access to the rear work site past your leased house or is it from the rear of the property?

I think that you would have a right to security during construction.

Cant really comment until the facts are established.
