Forum: How they put porn on our block’s TVs

That's the trouble with technology - sometimes you see more than you ought.

Once upon a time, way back in last century, we lived in an apartment that had a security camera on the door buzzer.  It was connected to the TV cabling in the building and it meant you could tune your TV to a certain channel and then see who was buzzing the door.

Actually, it meant you could see anything that was going on at or near the doorway as the camera was “live” all the time.

A couple of times I had the exquisite pleasure of using the speaker to scare the daylights out of ne’er-do-wells who were loitering a little to long at the entrance.

There was occasional discussion about installing a more modern system, one that only showed who was at the door to the resident whose number had been buzzed. This was generally rejected as an unnecessary expense. The system was clunky but it worked.

That was until one resident, trying out his new VHS player (remember them?), somehow managed to connect the “out” socket to the TV “in” cable and, while he was trying to work out why he wasn’t getting a picture on his TV, inadvertently played a porn video to the whole building.

Technology has come a long way since then. Intercom systems are quite sophisticated and you can buy and install a very inexpensive but highly effective security camera system around your property.

But are you allowed to in a strata scheme. Years ago we had a lengthy debate over whether an owner could watch passing neighbours with a camera attached to the spy hole in his door.

Right now, a couple of Flatchatters don’t like the fact that they are being watched by their neighbours. And it doesn’t need to be on a camera – they could just be looking in your window. That’s HERE.

How to ask and answer questions

Anyone can read our posts at any time, but you have to be registered to ask or answer questions. However, there are so many easy ways you can search, access, ask questions and reply to others’ queries once you have registered using the green “register and sign in …” box on this page.
The best way may be to click on “Forum: Your Qs & A’s” on the top menu bar or on the drop-down menu (three lines) on the screen on phones and tablets, under the Strata Choice ad. Then click on the topic title that interests you, and off you go.
Alternatively, you can click on the new “Latest Qs and As” Forum button on the top right of a computer screen or the link on the “hamburger” menu on a phone.

Or look at the list of “Your latest questions and answers” under the ads on the right of the page on a computer screen. Or at the bottom, after the ads and stories, on a tablet or phone.
finally, you can go “old school” and go to the Forum Home Page and work your way through the topics there.

Whichever route you take to get there, the best way to keep up to speed with what’s happening is to register (if you haven’t already done so), then login and subscribe for free to the topics that interest you most.
That way you’ll get an alert whenever the discussion moves forward, and you can also chip in with your own comments and questions. Have a look HERE at our instant guide to getting online.
