Understandably, our news feed was chockablock with speculation about the lowering of the interest rate this week.
And then, even more predictably, there was acres of coverage of what it really means (like that would have changed from what was correctly anticipated).
So we’ve taken an executive decision and cut out all the pre-announcement stuff from LeftField Communications’ comprehensive coverage and restricted the links to post stories to a couple of sources. Yes, it’s important and yes it could have a profound effect on the economy, especially property prices.
And we know you can only take so many stats and prophecies of doom so we’ve added a few more stories to our “Weird and not so wonderful” section at the end of this post.
Oh, and I had an opinion piece in the SMH this week where I somewhat cynically enticed readers with a discussion about drying your undies on your balcony, which I then turned into a rant about Fair Trading needing to run tests cases on new strata laws at the Tribunal.
Back to this week’s news, the links below are only to stories about apartments from free resources in the past week. To find out how to get even more property news in your email inbox (for free) every day, including reports on houses and from pay-walled publications, scroll down to the end of this post.

Why Burleigh Heads is Australia’s coolest coastal escape
In the ’70s, the Gold Coast was leaning into a retro, Cali-cool aesthetic. Burleigh Heads attracted global attention as the centre of Australia’s surf scene with its big barrelling waves. While developers set up their dreams in Surfers Paradise and Sanctuary Cove, filmmakers and photographers flocked to Burleigh Heads, turning the locale into a creative hub built around the point break. It offered an alternative to the glitz that became synonymous with the Gold Coast, carrying a grungier, anti-establishment outlook.
