The Owners Corporation Network (OCN) – NSW’s peak body for strata owners – is taking its annual conference to the somewhat uncharted and often choppy waters of Victorian strata, for the first time. 

Organisers say this will provide a unique opportunity for owners, owners corporation committee members, reform advocates and industry leaders from across Australia to connect and share perspectives on the future of residential strata.

But there’s no question that this is very much a case of planting a flag in Victoria, where strata advocacy, regulations, professional services, media coverage and reform have lagged for decades. And somewhere in there is the radical idea of bringing strata law in all states on to the same page, if not the same set of laws.

“For one full day, we’ll bring together people with different experiences of residential strata to explore the issues that matter to owners, OCs and apartment communities – from regulation and reform to legal, energy and practical issues affecting apartment living,” say organisers.

The program features an opening address from Lord Mayor Nic Reece, a national strata commissioners’ panel with Nicole Rich (Victoria), Angus Abadee (NSW) and Jane Wilson (QLD), legal experts and energy specialists. OCN members taking the stage to share their own stories.

“It’s a day to learn, connect, ask questions and be part of the conversation shaping the future of residential strata – and we’d love to see you there,’ say organisers. “Three themes. Nine sessions. One day that could genuinely shape the future of strata in this country.”
