Quirky: Empty shell could be a high-end home

Someone, somewhere has the cash and vision to turn this Robin Gibson modern mansion into an architectural gem.

It has no kitchen, no floors and no functional rooms, but a rare slice of architectural history from the man behind Brisbane’s South Bank and Cultural Centre has gone viral just days after hitting the market, with buyers going bananas over it.

According to this story in Domain, the three-storey, almost entirely gutted property is completely unliveable but sits on one of the city’s best streets. One owner’s uninhabitable empty shell could be another’s blank canvas.

Looking more like a car showroom than a modern mansion – this property is all potential and zero home comforts.

The five-bedroom “mid-century modernist” masterpiece at 42 Ivy Street, Indooroopilly, was designed by renowned architect Robin Gibson. And while it doesn’t come with a price guide, it’s being hailed as a multimillion-dollar opportunity.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the scale, potential tenants have been venting on social media over an ad for a room for rent that seems to be little more than a damp garage with a timber floor.
The room for rent that’s caused a furore online is described in the listing as large, private and bright, and located in a property near Coogee, in the Harbour city’s eastern suburbs.

Those stories are just a taste of the cornucopia of quirk from this week’s LeftField communications feed.
