It’s not that nobody wants to hear what a great time their friends and colleagues had on holiday – perfect beaches, amazing food, efficient and hospitable hosts. It’s that their audience can only listen to so much.
Sure, the mojitos at a little bar in Havana were the best you’d ever tasted, the beds in your boutique hotel in Barcelona were beyond blissfully comfortable, and the tour guide in Glasgow gave you a history lesson you will never forget.
But what the people who didn’t get to go on a bucket-list-ticking tour of a lifetime enjoy most is when things went awry. The tales of missed connections, unbooked rooms and inedible food are grist to the mill for those left behind.
