I understand, Costa. Some of my neighbours have noticed and commented on the front-and-rear dash cam I got after vandalism to my car in the community, non-secure, carpark. The most common opinion is ‘What a good idea! I think I’ll get one’ when I tell them it has a parking mode triggered by movement.

Just install your front door cam and give your immediate neighbours a short, polite note and see what happens. If you bump into them in the corridors, ask what they think.

I also have one pointing out my window at a Common Property pathway which is not at all easy to spot unless you’re peering in which almost nobody would. I see possums and cats but no poo-joggers yet.

In days gone by sensible people would have just shut their blinds enough to still allow light in, but not subject their neighbours to the embarrassment of seeing something they didn’t want to see. Yep, those days are gone and political correctness now means something diametrically opposite to what it meant before. It means doing whatever you damn well like and anybody who doesn’t like it is politically incorrect. “Grace”, “dignity”… there’s no such thing anymore.

And Tharra asks “what by-law/piece of strata legislation are they reaching”. The one that says the block is not a bl–dy commune. How’s that?

There’s only one dash cam worth considering and that’s the Blackvue 750 2C and you’ll need to have it hard wired to your car battery so it can work in Parking Mode. I’ve been through all this and I know what I’m taking about. There is a very helpful chap at Dashcams Australia and you can get one fast on-line but you may need to get an auto electrician to help install it. 

Also as JimmyT says, tell everyone and I also suggest put an item on your next AGM asking for CCTV to be installed and meanwhile right now, officially in writing, ask your Executive Committee to do this or your Strata Manager. Just getting such a request may have the desired effect of making the psycho stop.

Thanks for that JimmyT. Someone here just quoted you to me: “Your strata manager can only be as good as your committee”. That accurate? Seems applicable here. I wish I could post a picture on Flat Chat, the area in question looks like a packapoo ticket and I don’t mean the Chinese lottery game 🙂

No, no reason for the tapping back then as I recall. Just that the doors were superglued and the residents went.  I have always remembered and been curious so am pleased to have it solved in such an interesting way.

I have some important advice for monique10. Find Martha Stout PhD’s book The Sociopath Next Door urgently. Also google it now and find a list of characteristics. People like this can be dangerous. Don’t make yourself a target, consider not confronting them yourself. Once they target you, they won’t let up until they find someone else. (4 in every 20 people are one, so there are 2.5 in our block 🙂

Our block recently restricted work hours to: 8am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. 8am to 1pm Saturday. NO building work or building noise at all on Sundays and public holidays.

This is the same as our local council but with an extra half hour of peace at the beginning of each week day, because we are an apartment building, at close quarters, not a freestanding house 🙂

I think we’ve gone off on a tangent M’am. 

I think any proposed new SC member/s should be named in a properly put motion at our upcoming SC meeting. That would seem to be the minimum requirement for good governance.

Thanks again Lady Penelope. I hear you, but none of that answers my query I’m sad to say.

Wouldn’t it be good governance and probity, then, to: A. Say in the agenda who has put their hand up to stand to be voted on or in? B. Express it as a proper motion?

We might end up with the bloke from the flat up stairs who throws his butts, beer bottles, dog poo off the balcony on to the common property garden, parks his 4WD ute in the visitor parking spaces, leaves defamatory anonymous notes on the noticeboard in the middle of the night etc.

Thank you for your suggestion that I should ‘turn up and express my own interest’. Hope you don’t think I’m one of those who sit on the sidelines and do nothing but criticise. I assure you I’m not.

I am surprised. Doesn’t seem right to me.

I would have thought and it seems logical, as a minimum, the proposed person or persons to be voted on to replace exiting member should be named in the agenda written into a motion which is minuted it accordingly.

After all, at our AGMs those who want to be on the Strata Committee are written down, voted in, and it all appears in the minutes. In the Strata Committee meeting that follows, the Office Bearers are voted on and named in the minutes.

Sorry but I’ll ask this again as I’m anticipating the worst because that’s what we’ve come to expect here. So many governance and probity issues.

As I say above “They can ‘discuss’ it, but they can’t just suggest someone on the night, at the meeting, and vote him / her in, can they? There are all sorts of reasons I won’t go into why this would not be good at our block of 42 Lots.”
