Hi Jimmy,

This is my first look at this thread since you discussed it in your Flat Chat column and I am very disappointed in the direction it has taken since.

The primary purpose of this forum is for the sharing of issues we in the strata community share and to benefit from those with greater knowledge and experience than ourselves. It was with this in mind that I submitted my original post (after some careful consideration) hoping that others had experienced the same situation and how they had dealt with it. This issue had been discussed between a few neighbours and we were aware it was a matter that needed to be approached delicately and this was why I was seeking guidance from the forum.

Thank you to those posters who kept the discussion purely along the lines of Common Property and by-laws and thank you for reminding me about the Frasier episode – we are huge Frasier fans.

excathedra got it right and I would add some of the discussion also degraded the integrity of this forum.

Jimmy I would like to apologise to the forum for the direction this post went. This was certainly not my intention.

So now to finish. This matter went before the committee last night and the people concerned have been asked to submit a proposal to the E.C. detailing proposed specifications for flying of flags within our complex.

As the original poster of this topic can I ask that I now be the last and request that this be closed.

Where was the local council involvement in all this. Surely if the Owner's Corporation had reported this to the council the renovations would have breached any number of building regulations. Maybe council involvement would have made Supreme Court action unnecessary.

I live at a Strata complex in Newcastle consisting of a mix of apartments and town houses with quite a large swimming pool. My problem with kids is a bit different than noise though. One of our owners lets her underage kids (about 14 or 15) drink alcohol in the pool area out of glass containers (not allowed under the by-laws). We can stop the glass in the pool area but what are our obligations concering underage drinking on common property.
